a story of a boy

I love stories
Today I was reminded of several
I was at the retirement dinner for Larry Self and wife
They for 38 years ran the Cookeville Rescue Mission
This time when I was listening to stories
I remembered one

Once a long, long time ago
On a small island lived a young man
Raised in a primitive tribal setting
The Island was often ravaged
By Godless tribes from another smaller island

On one such raid
This young lad was captured
He was taken from his home to the other island
In a more savage place
Which knew not his God
He was a slave for several years
Then he managed to escape
And found his way home

At some point he met Jesus
At once he knew that his task
Was to take the story of Jesus
To the small island that had held him as a slave

And so he did
Years passed and the whole island followed Jesus
This young lad enslaved by the foreign tribe
Had by
The grace of God

The testimony of Jesus

And the power of the Holy Spirit

Brought freedom to a whole island
And through them to the larger world

So today I thank God for my brother
Patrick of Ireland
I donít call him saint as that term is often used
He was a saint i.e. one who follows Jesus
But what I will call him one day is
My elder brother in the Christ
