Let the Children be Children

Let the children be children

Twice this week I have watched

My grandson Jack

Play baseball

Two games won

What bothers me is

I asked if he ever just chose up sides and played

He seem unsure of what I was talking about

He said t hat he never had

Are we sure it is better for kids

When adults make all the choices

Why do you have to have a league

Why canít kids just be kids

I love it when they come to the farm

They can play

They can imagine and play act

The gravel pile can be a castle

And the sine thrown over some bamboo

A hiding place where no one can find you

I was stunned

You can& cannot  take a ball and bat to school

With schools in lock down

We need to create times and places

Where children can be children

And exercise the imaginations God has given

Run free and swing from trees

Dam up a creek and skip rocks on the pond

Perhaps even more we adults

Have lost the ability to play

Take some time and spend it with a child

Just hang out with no agenda

Let the kid decide what to do

And get off your high horse and

Be a kid again

He said unless you become as little children Ö.

The best way to be a little child again

Is to find out what they like and want to do.
